Le due Matote is a gem of a place to stay that should be on your Italian holiday list. Located in the Piedmont region, the village of Bossolasco is very pretty, but quite unassuming – adding to its Italian country charm.

Stunning scenery
Often referred story as ‘the landscape of the soul’ the Langhe hills produce some of Italy’s best red wines. Climbing roses meander their way up traditional rendered houses throughout the village.
Authentic Italian village
The main reason we made our way to Bossolasco was to stay at Le Due Matote, a 200-year-old farmhouse. It was once a burnt out ruin, but now fully restored, with the addition of a few modern amenities.
Country style hospitality
Le Due Matote is a splendid place to stay. Like most great country houses; it has the perfect mix of old and new, is warm and welcoming the moment you walk through its rose covered doorway.
Authentic decor
The sitting room boasts an eclectic mix of furniture, oversized chairs and couches, lamps and stacks of coffee table books. Colourful patterned kilims grace the floor. If you look through the doorway in the picture below, you can see an ornate staircase that winds up to the most romantic of rooms.
Homemade breakfasts
The aroma of brewed coffee and freshly baked breads made leaving our upstairs bedroom just a little easier. The delicious breads, jams and cheeses served are either homemade or sourced from local producers.
Comfortable bedrooms
Each guest room is unique and decorated in classic local style. The lovely old-world vibe, with canopied bed and heavy linen curtains framing the picture window, are perfectly in keeping with houses decor.
The spacious en-suite bathroom with luxurious bath towels, robes, slippers and bottles of Ortigia Sicilia toiletries, were a wonderful treat.
Lazing by the pool
Sun hats at the ready, the pool area is a big draw card on warm summer days. Deck chairs and sun lounges are set up around the pool and under the trees – for when you need a spell in the shade.
Taste local specialities
In the late afternoon, delicious complimentary aperitivo featuring local wines and a delicious selection of antipasto, are served in garden. What a wonderful and unexpected treat and an ideal settling to sample the regional produce.
Our local tip
Make sure you have lunch or dinner at Osteria-Enoteca Locanda del Camino. Chef and owner Roberto’s use of seasonal fruit and vegetables, aromatic herbs and flowers make his dishes delicious. He has a lovely bright dining room behind the casual bar and most importantly some of the regions best wines at reasonable prices – perfect to buy a few to take home.
